TRIBUTE
Susan Strickland
Co-Founder and First Vice President
Dirt Road Doggies Rescue
Susan Strickland made her final journey home Tuesday, June 14, 2016, to be with the Lord, in addition to family, friends, and fur babies that preceded her.
Susan led a vibrant and active life, working in real estate, taking trips both domestically and around the world, and was active in her local community and animal rescue. She championed healthy living, encouraging others to do the same, in addition to being a nurturer to her core. Political debating was something that Susan enthusiastically embraced; she even named a foster dog after a presidential candidate!
Susan loved animals of all kinds, but dogs and horses held a very special place in her heart. She would be the first to tell you that her animals are what kept her at peace. Susan never turned her back on a stray. Her family supported her countless endeavors to save the broken and forgotten four-legged friends many years before the start of our rescue.
Susan was simply so present, so spirited… so vital. It is difficult to realize our countless DRDR meetings spent sitting at her kitchen table will never be the same again without Susan there to offer wine, water, and appetizers while we get off-topic telling stories about pets from our past, laughing at each other’s antics, and plotting late into the night on how to save the lives of dogs. Susan rescued 6 dogs in 2016, with 4 finding their forever families.
Her remaining two fosters will be lovingly cared for until their adoptive families find them. DRDR will honor Susan’s memory by keeping what we made together growing strong.
